Lengths of days and nights in the poles vary so greatly that they have a 6-month
day(during summers) and a 6-month night (during winters). On the other hand, the
equator has a fixed 12-hour day and night, and their lengths are not influenced by
seasons. This is due to the fact that the Earth's axis is rotated. Since Kanyakumari
is close to the equator, it has days and nights of almost the same length (vice versa
for Kashmir).

the North South extent affects the duration of day and night in india. kanniyakumari is close to the equator where the sun is almost overhead all the year. hence the length of day and nights are equal. but in Kashmir ,the sun rays are slanting , so difference between day and night is as large as five hours days are longer than nights
