Answer:

Kanyakumari is close to the equator, whereas Kashmir is far from the equator. This means that Kanyakumari is at a lesser latitude as compared to Kashmir. We know that Kanyakumari is at 8°N latitude, it is just 8 degrees from the equator. As equator receives direct sunlight, the duration between day and night would hardly be felt at Kanyakumari. On the other hand, Kashmir is at 37°N latitude, which means that it is 37 degrees away from the equator or it is 37 degrees away from the area which receives direct sunlight. So, there would be a big difference in the duration of day and night in Kashmir. This difference is of about 5hrs in Kashmir.

Kanyakumari and Kashmir are located at different latitudes and at different locations from the equator. The day and night are nearly of the same duration at the equator but as we move away from the equator to the poles, the variations in duration of day and night become greater. Lengths of days and nights in the poles vary so greatly that they have a 6-month day(during summers) &a 6-month night(during winters). On the other hand, the equator has a fixed 12-hour day and night, and their lengths are not influenced by seasons. This is due to the fact that the Earth's axis is rotated.

Kashmir is at 37°N latitude, which means that it is 37 degrees away from the equator or it is 37 degrees away from the area which receives direct sunlight. This difference is of about 5hrs in Kashmir while as Kanyakumari is quite near the equator at 8°4N & the day-night difference is hardly one hour there. So, there is a big day-night difference in Kashmir while the duration of day and night is hardly felt at Kanyakumari.

This is the reason that the difference between the durations of day and night is hardly felt in Kanyakumari but not so in Kashmir
