why is the difference between the durations of day and night hardly felt at kanyakumari but not so in kashmir?

Kanyakumari is close to the equator so the duration between day and night is hardly felt there.
But as we move away from the equator towards the poles difference between durations of days and nights increases.Kashmir being away from the equator has more difference between duration of day and night compared to kanyakumari.
