why is the direction of flow of charge taken as from positive to negative and not negative to positive despite the fact that electrons flow and not protons?​

Electricity was discovered much more ago than elections .
First our scientists had discovered Protons .
Because the mass of the protons were much more . While electrons has negligible mass.

Since , they took conventionally that current flow from positive to negative. Again many theories were also based on this. So ,it is impossible to change this assumption though we know that electrons flow not protons .
