Explanation: The distance between stars is very large and therefore it would be very problematic to express these distances with the help of units like km or metre etc. Ex- 4500000000km would be very difficult to write. Therefore we use a unit like light year or parsec(this is also a unit).

A light year is the distance travelled by light in one year

This statement means that a star is located at a distance from the earth which will take a light ray 8 years to reach(which is actually very far away as even light ray is taking 8 years to reach it)
