don't be confuse dear i will here to help you

the distance of stars from the Earth and the distance between the stars are very large therefore we can't express this distance in kilometre thus these large distance are expressed in another big unit called light years.

one light year is the distance travelled by light in one year one light year is equal to9.46×10^12km

a star is located 8 light years away from the Earth this means that the distance between the sun and the earth is equivalent to the distance travelled by light in 8 years star is located 8×(9.46×10^12)=7.6×10^13 km away from the earth

hope its remove your confusion
