Because population is more in urban areas due to beter civilization, availability of various facilities like of medical , doctor , shopping etc... and better job opportunity.....

The rocky and hilly regions of our country have less population as compared to population on plainy areas

Population is less in areas where weather conditions ate extreme....like jammu and kashmir etc....

The distribution of population is uneven because of many reasons -

i) Climate. For example, The Himalayan and other areas face extreme temperatures and climate due to which they have a sparse population but on the other hand the northern plains and peninsular India have favourable climate and thus densely populated.

ii) Relief. For example, as mentioned above, both the mentioned regions have rugged and plain terrain respectively which decides its ability for support of livelihood, which in turn decides its density.

iii) India being a poor country is largely dependent on agriculture and thus prefer to settle in places which have fertile soil, suitable for agriculture.
