The distribution of rainfall is uneven n India because:

The Arabian sea branch of the South-West monsoon, which arc moisture laden winds, causes very heavy rainfall when they strike the Western Ghats.

Mawsynram gets more rain due to its relief. It gets rain from the Bay of Bengal branch of the South-West monsoon.

Latitudinal extent: The tropical and coastal regions and plains receive more rainfall than the plateau and desert regions in the interior.

Relief and topography: The windward side of mountains and hills receive more rainfall than leeward side.

The vagaries of the monsoon:The unpredictability of the monsoon along with phenomena like monsoon troughs and depressions lead to uneven distribution of rainfall.
