Why is the Electronic configuration of Calcium and other reactive metals and non metal written as 2,8,8,2(Ca) when the K,L,M,N.... shells are sais to have maximum no. of electrons as 2,8,18,32....? Idont understand this????

this is because ,to become stable an element has to have an octet in the outermost shell. So it is easy 4 them to give 2 electrons from the outermost shell & gain octet
