Why is the emissive power on earth's surface directly proportional to the square of the ratio of radius/distance?

Because it is directly proportional to the area of the object as earth is imperfectly spherical in shape it's surface area would be same as sphere thus 4πr^2 and hence it is directly proportional to the square of radius
