Why is the father unhappy and what is his problem?

The father is unhappy because his relationship with his son has strained over time. Both live in the same house but as strangers. Father wants to make an effort to bridge the ever increasing gap between them. He feels that he should start the relation afresh from scratch, but how should he proceed, he is unsure of that and hence is in a dilemma.
