Why is the first ionisation enthalpy of mg greater than al l?

In Case of Magnesium and Aluminium.. if we write their Quantum Numbers.. we will find the outer most electrons are in 3S orbital in case of Magnesium. But of Aluminium the outer most electron is in 3P orbital.. 3S is closer to nucleus than 3P . therefore it is easier to remove electron From 3P orbital than 3S.. therefore My has more first Ionization enthalpy
