why is the formula of carbon dioxide not written as C2O

Because carbon is basic radical and oxygen is an acidic radical and according to rules for writing chemical formulae basic radical should be written first and then the acidic radical. ... Because oxygen has 2 atoms (Di-2) not carbon and as the name suggests first carbon should be written not oxygen .
