The foundation of the building is generally built wider and broader as compared to its walls so that the building does not sink into the ground and is also capable to handle the pressure of the entire building. With the wide base as the foundation, large buildings can prevent high pressure.

The foundation of any building is made wider to support the building..
The reason is that The building will exert less pressure on the larger surface area.
