there are following reason why ganga and brahmaputra are thickly populated.

1) the plane land of ganga and brahmaputra basin are very fertile so agriculture availability and production is much larger so there are many job application and people go there.

2) many Civilization from the history to live near the river and due to this presence of ganga brahmaputra basin are highly populated

3) due to the availability of minerals the job availability is also great so that a many people migrate there.

4) the area of ganga brahmaputra basin is reside in plains and the fall in this area is very much low so on the steep land there is much cultivation and better for a building of an industry or home.
