ANSWER-The giant is considered to be selfish because he wanted to enjoy in his garden all alone and did not want to share it with anyone,not even those innocent children.He had built high walls around his garden to keep others away.

Later he was punished with a perpetual winter and he felt lonely,which led to a change in his attitude.
