This is because F is directly proportional to \frac{1}{r {}^{2} } and since , it is directly proportional , the graph is a straight line passing through origin inclined towards the \frac{1}{r {}^{2} } axis . Had it been the graph of F - R{}^{2}, it would have been a hyperbola , since F is inversely proportional to r{}^{2}
