Why is the hydronium ion used to represent the hydrogen ion in a solution?

The proton cannot exist in aqueous solution, due to its positive charge it is attracted to the electrons on water molecules and the symbol H3O+ isused to represent this transfer.Hydronium ion is a molecule consisting of 3 hydrogens and one oxygen: H3O+ .
