Creates a lot of CO2, compared to gasification or pyrolysis

-Creates Ash as a by product which has to be removed from the stacks and buried later

-Fairly expensive equipment (Capital cost), more than landfills, but with less ongoing maintenance (landfills require annual inspections and mitigation for EVER!)

-Economies of scale require pretty large facilities to make cost effective

-Not everything can be burned, so it requires sorting of incoming waste stream which can increase labor costs and overall operating expenses.
