why is the insolation received by the equatorial regions greater than the polar region​

In the equatorial region the sun's rays are vertical and they recieve a greater sunlight.In the polar region the sun's rays are slanting and some say the sun never shines in the polar region. In other words the sunlight goes on decreasing as one moves from the equator to the poles.
