why is the large number of children and old age population considered a burden

These two variants of population are generally not the earning members of economic graph of a place.


Children and old age population does not contribute to the income potential and that is why they do not show any fund in GDP of a country.


Hence from the point of economy and in assessing the GDP of a place these two categories are considered as burden.
