why is the layer of zinc coated over iron

Zinc coating on any metal prevents rusting.Layer os zinc is coated over iron to prevent rusting of iron.This process is called galvanaization.

a layer of zinc coated over iron because it protects iron from oxidation as iron get oxide very soon by getting air water and its components. therefore zinc is used to prevent it.
