why is the mechanical advantage of a lever is always less than 1?

The  lever always has a mechanical advantage of less than 1, because the load travels a greater distance than the force travels. A baseball bat and a broom are also examples of levers, with which a greater effort results in a smaller load moving at a greater speed.
