The correct answer is They would lose all luxuries like eggs, wine and brandy .
Mrs Puphrey loved Tricki very much - so much that she over-pampered and ill-treated him. Even when he is hospitalized because of the illness Mrs Pumphrey caused, she still couldn't bear the thought that Tricki will not be able to eat whatever he used to eat at home - eggs, wine, brandy and all - so she sent loads of them at a time to the hospital for the doctor to feed him with. She believed that this would cure Tricki of his 'malnutrition'. But Dr Herriot knew that this was not food for a dog, and it was the cause for his illness, so to empty up the storage of food and to make Mrs Pumphrey believe that her dog was eating well, he and his partners fed on the food themselves. They had two eggs each for breakfast, two glasses of wine before lunch and several during lunch, and the fine spirit of brandy rolled around, inhaled and reverently drunk during the night. Every meal felt pleasant with all this going on. Dr Herriot knew that as long as he keeks Tricki as a permanent guest, Mrs Pumphrey will continue sending in the food, but knew that Mrs Pumphrey was waiting eagerly for her precious pet back, and hence had to give him up to her and all the other luxuries that came with it.
