as we imagine uniformly accelerated motion (speeding up motion) means speed (magnitude of velocity) of body increases at a constant rate or by equal amounts in equal intervals of time. since slope dy/dx of distance time graph gives us speed (which is continuously increasing here), so graph must be a parabola opening upwards.
