1.The major reason is rapidly increasing population.The increase in number of people means increase in demand of water per person.
2.The increase in Industries has also increased demand of water.Coal plant, sugar industries, cotton industries, Iron and steel industries etc. requires huge amount of water.
3.The irregular monsoon has increased the pressure on rivers and other water source for irrigation of agriculture land.Due to high demand of food grains, intensive farming is done and it requires large amount of water for irrigation.
