Nerve cells are usually very long and branched so that it helps in transmission of signals or electrical impulses over all parts of the body. They divide and re-divide and so cover a large surface area of the body and every portion receives the signals from the central nervous system.
unwanted:
they receive signal from autonomous nervous system ,peripheral nervous system also from CNS,so mention only cns is not cprrect

Because they need to cover the whole body,so they are long and to reach every cell they are branched
