Why is the north-south extent of India larger than its east-west extent even though the countries latitudinal and longitudinal extent is of same value?

The latitudinal and longitudinal extent of India is almost the same degrees. i.e 30 degrees. But the north south distance in Kilometers is 3214 and the east west distance is 2933 km. This is because of the nature of the latitudes and the longitudes.
