A clone is said to be genetically identical individuals. In the process of asexual reproduction only one parent is involved and there is no fusion of male and female gamete. As a result the offsprings so produced are morphologically and genetically similar to their parents and are thus ,called clones.

The asexual reproduction is referred to as clone because :

• The offsprings produced by two methods one is asexual and second one sexual reproduction.

• In both cases, offspring are identical to their parents but a slight difference is there.

• in the asexual reproduction only single parent is involved there is no fusion of male and female gametes.

• In the asexual reproduction, the offsprings are morphologically and genetically identical to the parent that's why asexual reproduction is referred to as a clone.

• Cloning means identical or exact offspring are created by using the asexual reproduction process.
