being first line of defence for cell itself ,the surface contains protein epitopes that only allow correct and desired material to enter the cell.

any constitute or entity If unable to attach to specific epitope... is left out for good.

on the other hand , gates for specific minerals such and sodium potassium gates etc work under special condition where passage for only those materials are allowed .
