The plateau region is dry when it is compared with Ganga plains because the Ganga plains are drained by the river Ganga and it's tributaries which provides alluvial soil to the region. River Ganga is a perennial river and flows throughout the year. The plateau region is dry because there are rivers which rise in the mountains and they are non-perennial which flow seasonally.
