why is the poet writing long letter? why does not mention the departure of the tree?

By "long letter" the poet is referring to her poems which she writes, the poet Adrianne rich is a feminist . She writes her poems mainly to promote feminism

By trees the poet actually means women, the poet does not mention the departure of the trees due to restrictions because women where not given freedom and were also not allowed to express it through poems, novels etc.
