A preamble is an introductory and explanatory statement in a document that explains the documents purpose & underlying philosophy. The preamble of the Constitution of India indicates that the source of constitution is "we the people of India". It has been called the identity card of the Constitution by Na Palkhiwala. It is called the identity card of the Constitution because whenever there arises ant doubt in the interpretation of the Constitution the matter is decided in the light of the preamble.
