The process of unification of UK was a long drawn out process as:-

1)The story of nationalism in Britain is very different from other nations in Europe.

2)As it was not a result of sudden upheaval or protest but a long process of struggle

3)Prior to 18th century the were no British nations but there were ethnic identities such as English Welsh Scot or Irish

4)All these ethnic groups had there own culture and tradition 

5)The symbol of new Britain :- The Birtish flag ,The national anthem and English language were actively promoted and older nations survived as a subordinate partners in this union
