why is the rate of breathing much faster in aquatic and organisms than those of Terrestrial organisms

Because the dissolved oxygen in water is not sufficient for aquatic animals at once so they have to breath faster so that they can get sufficient supply of oxygen. Hence, the rate of breathing is faster in aqautic animals is faster than that of terrestrial animals
