Why is the ratio of hydrochloric acid and nitric acid in aqua regia 3:1 ?

adithyabelatrix007: Yeah.....that's the general information that is known to me......but my question is why are those acids present in aqua regia in 1:3 ratio....why this exact ratio and why cant be their composition ratio in aqua regia equal....???
