Why is the ratio of hydrogen and oxygen formed at the cathode and anode is 2:1 by volume in electrolysis

the number of hydrogenmolecules produced is twice the number of oxygen molecules. So, electrolysis of water produces 2volumes of hydrogen gas and 1volume of oxygen gas because theratio of hydrogen and oxygenelements in water is 2:1 by volume
