why is the reaction b/w acid and base called neutralisation reaction?

A neutralization reaction is when an acid and a base react to form water and salts and involves the combination of H+ions and OH- ions to generate water. The neutralization of a strong acid and strong base has a pH equal to 7.

Neutralisation, is a chemical reaction in which an acid and a base react quantitatively with each other. In a reaction in water, neutralization results in there being no excess of hydrogen or hydroxide ions present in the solution.
