CH4 + Cl2 → CH3Cl + HCl
In the presence of sunlight, chlorine replaces the hydrogen atoms of methane one by one, so it is called a substitution reaction.

Ans. Substitution reactions are referred as the reaction in which one element or functional group are displaced or substituted by other elements or fuctional group.It is also known as displacement reaction. Here,
CH⁴ + Cl² ---------> CH³Cl + HCl
In this also one H is displaced by Cl atom in the presence of Sunlight (Chlorination). This is also considered as a Substitution reaction.
