Why is the reaction between methane and chlorine considered as substitution reaction

because in this reaction when methane reacts with chlorine in the day light.....in the silun light it replaces hydrogen from it one by one

Because saturated hydrocarbon methane reacts with chlorine gas,chlorine replaces or substitute in place of one hydrogen in presence of sunlight .

CH4+Cl2= CH3Cl+HCl
