Explanation:

The loading process of the rifle involved bringing the cartridge to the mouth , biting the greased cartridge and then putting the pellets. ... Hence they refused the rifle when they were forced to use. This led to an uprising and was the immediate cause of the First War of Independence

the revolt of 1857 called the first war of independence because the the rebellion has started between British and sepoys but it assume that all India character which means that the supporters wear conspired with Indian rulers because the where not happy that what were happening in the countryside because many supporters where drawn from pesantry class and Indian rulers becausebecause the British torture the Indian rulers in the case of religious caste affiliations and high taxation and losting their zamindari which they had owned for their generation

the immediate cause of the revolt was the greased cartridges because there was a rumour that the cartridges where made from fat of cow and fat of pig and this rumour spread very much which oppose the rule of Hindu and Muslim unity and this cartridges were bitten off by the teeth and touches the soldiers mouth which oppose the rule of Hindu and Muslim unity
