Speed of sound is fastest in solid than gases because solids are densely packed and have approx negligible amount of space between their particles. It shows no elasticity. As caompared to gases. As particles are more nearer in solids, sound fastly propagated to other.
Hope it helps u.

Anonymous: formula states speed in medium is equal to square root of elasticity and density
Anonymous: so for solids numerator is less than denominator as compared to gases so speed come less in solid than gas
Anonymous: I don't get it
Anonymous: thanks but Plzz clarify as I have commented here
Paradoxialchampion: Elasticity means the tendency of body to maintain its shape according to phyics. For example, in general life , rubber is more elastic than steel but in physics, steel is more elastic than rubber because steel comes back to its original shape fastly than rubber when deforming force are removed.
Paradoxialchampion: In density term, if the density of object is more then speed of sound is slow and vice- versa. As also in equation v=under root e/p.Hope u got it.
