Why is the symbol S for sulpher,but Na for sodium and Si for silicon

The symbols for many of the elements in the periodic table are derived from their Latin names, such as Au for gold, derived from Aurum, and Ag for Silver, derived from Argentum. The same applies for Sodium, derived from Natrium, thus Na.

As for Silicon and Sulphur, if I’m not mistaken, silicon was discovered, so as to speak, after sulphur, and thus got the symbol S and the silicon, when discovered was given the symbol Si.

usually elements symbols are kept by starting letter or letters of element.or it can be according to Latin names here sodium symbol is Na that is because Latin name of sodium is natrium.
