Terai region has dense forests due to the availability of rich fertile soils and huge rivers.

  • The Terai region is crossed by Yamuna, Ganga, Kosi etc. rivers of the Himalayas that have created alluvial fans covering thousands of square kilometers below their hill exits.
  • The region's geological composition also consists of both old and modern alluviums, all of which are alluvial deposits of mostly clay, silt, sand and the coarse fragments.
  • Every year the new alluvium is replaced by fresh deposits carried down by active streams that participate in fluvial action. This in turn makes the area dense with forests and rich for cultivation.
