why is the tip of a needle sharp?

To increase pressure..so that it can get pierced easily.... As area and pressure are inversely proportional

to stitch the cloth the needle must go deeper into the cloth. but the needle requires more pressure to get into the cloth. thus the area is reduced and pressure is increased to get  clothes stitched
