there is a reason related to force and it is that if the area is small then the amount of force will be large

A needle is used for piercing a surface (cloth, paper or wood).
When a needle is pushed against a surface, the end of pin exerts some pressure on the surface.
Larger is this pressure, easier it will be to pierce the surface.
Now, pressure depends both on force applied as well as area of the surface in contact.
A sharp pointed end has a very small surface area to be in contact with, due to which pressure becomes very large at that point.
This helps in easier working with needle.
