This could be so that you have sharp ends. Ends with a small radius of curvature have higher electric fields than blunt objects. You also need a system that a lot of current can flow through. I have heard that the round ball conductors can handle more current than the sharp end conductors, which makes sense. When you have current going through your body, the sharper objects such as nose and fingers have the “flashes and fire” coming out of them.
