The use of Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) being discouraged because CFCs molecules were not settle in atmosphere and uv rays break these molecules which cause ozone depletion.

CFCs have low chemical reactivity and so they remain in the atmosphere for a longer period of time. The reach to the stratosphere and starts to react with the Ozone present there. They react with Ozone thereby breaking it down into oxygen. Ozone is the layer on the atmosphere which prevents the harmful ultraviolet radiation to reach the earth. The emission of CFC hence breaks down the life-saving Ozone layer. CFCs are used mainly in refrigerators, air-conditioners, etc and hence there use is being discouraged.
