why is the use of iodised salt advisable? explain

as we all are familiar that the iodine is a mineral and its salt have unique property ..I mean to say that it helps in the production of thyroxin hormone which is quite beneficial for diseases in humans .when there's deficiency of thyroxin hormone so it's adivised to use this salt for better results.
