Why is the valency of Oxygen, a "negatiive" two (-2)?

because it is non metal. it requires 2 electrons to achieve inert gas structure

Here is ur answer..

Valency of OXYGEN is -2 because of its tendency to gain electrons.. Oxygen cannot lose electrons therefore its valency in alwz a negative 2.. ( Ans. - Tendency to lose electrons.)
